Join us as we hear from two guest speakers - Nicholas Boys Smith and David Milner - outlining both the opportunities, and barriers, to delivering infrastructure in accord with community need.

Topics will include:

Nicholas Boys Smith

Nicholas is the Founding Director of Create Streets and has led dozens of community engagement projects across the UK and Ireland. He was co-chair of the Government’s Building Better Building Beautiful Commission which received widespread support.

In 2020, Nicholas was a member of the expert group advising on the Government’s White Paper, Planning For the Future, is chair of the Advisory Board for the Government’s new Office of Place and advised on the new National Model Design Code.

Nicholas was a Commissioner of Historic England until 2021 and is an Academician of the Academy of Urbanism and a research fellow at the University of Buckingham on urban design.

David Milner

David Milner

David is currently managing a wide range of community engagement, urban design, estate regeneration, and local government consultation projects. David has particularly expertise and interest in how streets and places interact and is the author of The Bin Lorry Effect.

Previously, David worked for six years as an officer and pilot in the Royal Air Force after a spell as an analyst at a multinational retailer. David has a Master of Engineering from Oxford University and a level 5 Diploma from the Institute of Leadership and Management. David is a member of the Academy of Urbanism.
