Overview
Werrington Grade Separation (“WGS”) involves the design and construction of a grade separated railway junction (3 miles North West from the centre of Peterborough). The scheme will allow trains to transfer between the Stamford Lines and Great Northern Great Eastern (“GNGE”) Line without conflicting with the East Coast Main Line (“ECML”) service. The scheme is required in combination with other schemes in order to increase capacity on the ECML for long distance, high speed trains between London and the North.
The scheme will install a dive-under below the ECML separating freight services to Spalding from ECML services. To enable the installation of the dive-under the Stamford Lines will be slewed to the west allowing a cutting to be formed within the wide-way.
