Overview

The West Kirby Flood Alleviation Scheme, completed in August 2023, was the first Local Authority coastal flood defence scheme in the North West of England to be delivered under the Environment Agency’s Collaborative Delivery Framework.

The scheme, which took over a decade to come to fruition, presented significant challenges in gaining approval, managing environmental constraints, design development and technical detailing, community liaison and construction management throughout the period.

The presentation covers the development of the scheme from inception to completion and comprise three key stages of the project:

    • The history and background, including policy, risk and community liaison.
    • The development of the detailed design of the works.
    • An overview of the construction programme.

Organised and hosted by ICE Merseyside Branch.
