Overview
Richard Machray, Engineering Manager, Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe, Ltd and Paul McVeigh, Senior Buildings Civil Engineer, Horizon Nuclear Power will talk about working collaboratively to develop the Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Station on the Isle of Anglesey.
This lecture is co-badged with IMechE, IET and EI.
Horizon Nuclear Power and the Menter Newydd Joint Venture are working collaboratively to develop the Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Station on the Isle of Anglesey. The intention is to deliver a cost effective nuclear power station that provides approximately 2.6GW of electricity to the UK National Grid.
The design of the power station utilises well proven Advanced Boiling Water Reactor technology that has been delivered in many countries around the world. The UK ABWR is currently at Step 4 of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process where the Office of Nuclear Regulation is assessing the suitability of the design for deployment in the UK.
This lecture aims to give:
- An outline of the Project and its current status,
- An understanding of the UK ABWR technology and its development,
- An understanding of the Civils scheme and how Hazards have been mitigated during the design development.
Light refreshments will be served at 5.30, before the lecture which will start at 6.00pm.
