Finding solutions to enigneering in the permafrost.
Finding solutions to enigneering in the permafrost.

About this event

The presence of permafrost which underlies approximately a quarter of the land masses in the Northern hemisphere can present significant challenges to the construction of infrastructure particularly when significant quantities of ground ice are present.

This talk will provide an insight into the key challenges and potential consequences of inadequate design as well as the engineering solutions that have been developed to allow the successful development of these extreme environments.

It will also consider the threats posed by ongoing climate change and the ways in which engineers are playing a lead role in their mitigation.

Speaker
