Overview

Anglian Water was formed 50 years ago via The 1973 Water Act.

The speaker will give a potted history of the early years up to privatisation under the Water Act 1989 from a Peterborough Perspective.

The speaker, a retired Anglian Water engineer, will talk about the formation of the then authority and describe the state of water, sewage disposal and river management services in 1974 in the Peterborough area.

He will then detail the infrastructure improvements which took place up over the next 25 years until 1989.

A further event is planned for 28 May 2025 to cover the years since privatisation under the Water Act 1989.
