Overview

Designed by John Wood the Younger in 1769, the Grade 1 listed Bath Assembly Rooms are part of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath.

As the epicentre of Georgian social life, the iconic rooms hosted elaborate balls, concerts, and card games, making them the place to be seen as described in some of Jane Austen's novels.

The National Trust has owned the Assembly Rooms since 1931 and took on the day to day running of the building in 2023.

The trust is now undertaking an ambitious conservation scheme to restore the building and create a new visitor experience to transport people back to the social scene of Georgian Bath.

This talk will focus on the work that has gone into revealing and understanding the structure and how it is being repaired and adapted for the future.

You'll get insights into the structural engineering challenges associated with the plans and the solutions that have been developed to allow this fantastic building to be fully re-opened to the public once more.
