This event is aimed at those looking to get professionally qualified with the ICE – the session with provide guidance on the pathway to professional review as well as some perspective on the journey from two recently qualified individuals (IEng and CEng).   

Laura Evans, ICE membership development officer for Hertfordshire and Essex, will unravel the roadmap to achieving professional qualification with the ICE. Laura's insightful presentation will guide you through the critical stages of professional qualification, from academic qualifications to gaining on-the-job experience (IPD), and finally acing a professional review. Laura will also be shedding light on various IPD options including ICE training agreement, mentor supported training, and career appraisal, as well as providing an overview of the ICE attributes.

Additionally, hear firsthand from Ian James (IEng) and Brendan Audis (CEng) about their experiences, challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons learned on their path to becoming professionally qualified.

Laura is one of the ICE’s Membership Development Officers (MDOs) in the East of England region, covering Hertfordshire and Essex. She has been an MDO for the last 6 years, supporting civil engineers and technicians working towards professional qualification with the ICE.  Prior to her ICE role, Laura worked as an engineer in the coastal and maritime sector having graduated from Imperial College, London with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Ian James

Ian is an Incorporated Engineer (MICE, January 2024) who works for Mott MacDonald Limited as a Senior Civil Engineer having worked for the company for the last 6 years working primarily on projects within the infrastructure sector, working on notable projects such as High Speed 2, East West Rail, and the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet National Highways project. Ian graduated from Portsmouth University in 2014 with a 1st class honours degree in Civil Engineering before beginning his career as a Site Engineer for Dyer and Butler out of Southampton before leaving to work on The Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Broadland Northway) as a Section Engineer at Balfour Beatty until 2018.

Brendan Audis

Brendan is a Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE, November 2024), who currently works as a Senior Structural Engineer for Norse Consulting. Brendan has been with Norse Consulting for the last seven years and is primarily involved in the design of new educational buildings across Norfolk for Norfolk County Council. Prior to this, Brendan had experience working in the Oil & Gas sector with KBR, helping to deliver infrastructure projects valued in excess of $20bn, such as BP’s Shah Deniz 2 in the Caspian and Maersk’s Culzean North Sea gas projects. Brendan graduated from the University of Bath with a 1st class master’s degree in civil engineering in 2013.
