Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics
SECED promotes the study and practice of earthquake engineering, dynamics, and vibration issues like blast and impact.
Event organised by Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can be a powerful tool used to assist in structural analysis. This presentation will first discuss some CFD modelling methods and then how these can be integrated into wider projects. This will be followed by a case study, highlighting high-pressure air venting onto a simple plate.
Whilst the CFD example is not complex, it will give a good insight into the considerations required when scoping and developing a CFD investigation, along with a greater understanding of what level of data output can be expected.
This event is co-badged with the IMechE Bath & Bristol Young Members’ Panel.

Improving the world through engineering
AtkinsRéalis
advanced technology engineer
C has been working at the global engineering consultancy, AtkinsRéalis, for almost 2 years as a CFD engineer.
Her team sits within the infrastructure sector, but her work involves a large amount of cross discipline studies.
C regularly performs investigations in hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and thermodynamics helping design engineers in the water, transport, infrastructure, buildings, nuclear, defence and renewables markets, highlighting the vast range of CFD applications throughout engineering.
Prior to this, C spent 4 years working in the National Wind Tunnel Facility at the University of Glasgow performing CFD and experimental research for her PhD in Aerospace Engineering.
Join us to hear from the client, the Department for Infrastructure, the client’s representative, AtkinsRéalis, and D&B contractor, Charles Brand, as they describe the design and construction of the flood defence scheme protecting Belfast from tidal flooding to 2080.
Aimed at students, this series of seven webinars which runs until May 2025 will enable you to learn about professional life from recent graduates from across the industry.
This is your chance to influence how Transport for the North (TfN) bring their Strategic Transport Plan to life across the North. Input your views, engage with others, and hear from TfN’s interim strategy director.
