Overview

Join the Yorkshire and Humber Retired Members (RICE) for a masterclass in conservation engineering with examples from three major restoration projects across Yorkshire and the Humber.

Gez Pegram will tell the story of two award-winning heritage projects completed in 2023 and 2024 at Wentworth House in Rotherham. Through the restoration of the Grade II listed Camellia House and structural repairs to Keppel's Column, Gez presents a best-practice showcase for conservation engineering techniques including monitoring, load-testing, repairs to cast and wrought iron, and masonry stitching.

Following this, Alasdair Beal will discuss the Seven Arches Aqueduct in Adel, whose legacy stretches from its construction in 1842, to 2000 when its 1998 restoration scheme won the national Historic Bridge Awards. This Grade II listed structure, whose signature lean has earned comparison to the famous Tower of Pisa, proved challenging to stabilise, resulting in interesting and innovative structural solutions.
