Overview

Drummond Modley, a reservoir safety manager at Wessex Water and a member of the British Dam Society Committee, will give a presentation sharing his years of experience and passion for dam engineering.

During his talk, you’ll learn about the history and use of dams across the world, including an overview of the typical types of dams. Find out why dams are so important from societal, environmental, and economic perspectives.  

The talk will also look at some of the careers available in dam engineering and the routes available for anyone interested in forging a career in the sector.

ICE Bath City Club has organised the event. Everyone is welcome.

Drummond Modley

Drummond Modley FICE FIW is a civil engineer with 40 years’ experience in the water industry in the UK and overseas. 

On leaving Imperial College, he started his experience with dams in London, working as a graduate at Binnie & Partners and later as a chartered engineer for Binnies on various dam schemes across the UK and north Africa.  He has also worked on water, energy and wastewater projects in Africa, Middle East and the UK. He’s lived in Cairo, Paris and Somerset. 

For Wessex Water, Drummond has been a member of the Reservoirs Act Supervising Engineer Panel since 2005 and the company’s reservoir safety manager since 2020. 

He enjoys being a member of the British Dam Society Committee, helping with the organisation of technical forums and conferences, as well as working to encourage and inspire students across the UK to look to a career in dam engineering.
