Overview

Please note the visit will be held on 22 February 2025 from 10:15 – 11:45 HK time.

In this event, participants will be led on an exploration of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM), an independent, non-profit charity founded by members of the local shipping industry with backing from the shipping community, individuals, and the Hong Kong SAR Government. Serving as the city’s exclusive maritime museum, the HKMM is dedicated to preserving, showcasing and commemorating the maritime culture and heritage.

The guided tour will cover subjects including naval architecture, marine technology, shipping logistics, decarbonization, coastal defence and the role of Hong Kong's piers and harbours in maritime trade and urban development. Participants will delve into the evolution of Hong Kong’s coastline and its implications for coastal engineering, land reclamation, and urban planning. After the tour, participants will discover how civil engineering has shaped Hong Kong's maritime legacy and modern waterfront.
