Overview

The Shek Wu Hui Effluent Polishing Plant is a project by the Drainage Services Department to expand the Shek Wu Hui Sewage Treatment Plant. As a cornerstone of environmental stewardship, the facility is designed to elevate the quality of treated effluent, ensuring compliance with rigorous environmental standards while supporting the sustainable development of Sheung Shui, Fanling, and surrounding regions.

The plant employs state-of-the-art technologies, including biological filtration and chemical dosing systems, to refine treated wastewater and significantly reduce pollutants prior to discharge. Emphasising energy efficiency and smart automation, the project aligns with Hong Kong’s broader goals of fostering green infrastructure and enhancing climate resilience.

During the visit, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the plant’s advanced treatment processes and gain insights into the engineering challenges of retrofitting and upgrading existing wastewater infrastructure. Discussions will highlight innovative strategies to optimise project efficiency and safety, such as the integration of Modular Integrated Construction (MIC) and Digital Twin technologies. Industry experts will also share best practices for sustainable water management and addressing the demands of urban growth.

This visit offers a firsthand look at how cutting-edge engineering and environmental accountability converge to protect water resources. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s evolving wastewater treatment landscape and the technologies driving a cleaner, greener future.
