Overview

Food waste is any waste, whether raw, cooked, edible and associated with inedible parts generated during food production, distribution, storage, meal preparation, or consumption of meals.

O · PARK1 is the first organic resources recovery centre in Hong Kong, converting food waste into renewable energy and compost through advanced anaerobic digestion technology. The biogas will be used to generate electricity. Apart from the internal use within O · PARK1, about 14 million kWh of surplus electricity, which is equivalent to the power consumption by some 3,000 households, can be exported each year. O · PARK1 can handle 200 tonnes of food waste per day.

This visit offers participants a unique opportunity to tour the facility, observe the waste-to-energy process, learn about the applications of biogas, understand sustainable development in Hong Kong and how O · PARK1 contributes to the goal.
