Overview
The National Buried Infrastructure Facility (NBIF) is part of the UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities, based at the University of Birmingham.
This event will provide insights into the ‘one of its kind’ facility spanning research, education, continued professional development and training.
NBIF comprises of a large pit area, 25m by 10m by 5m deep, with a central moveable floor section which enables the simulation of ground movement. Advanced sensing using optical fibres and other sensors provides an in-depth understanding of the soil-structure interaction.
The visit will start with a presentation on the background to the facility and some details of experiments conducted to date. Following the presentation there will be a tour to see the facility first-hand and take a closer look and the different equipment available on site.
Please note hi-vis waist coats will be provided and please ensure you wear flat close toed shoes for this event.
