Overview

ICE Kolkata is hosting a series of online lectures on the procurement process, contract management, and the code of conduct in relation to ethics and compliance. The series will consist of three lecture sessions.

These lectures aim to enhance the knowledge and raise awareness among practicing engineers about the procurement process for major projects, including how contracts are finalised, managed during project execution, handed over, and the professional ethics maintained in civil engineering projects.

Malith S. Mendis

Malith S. Mendis is a Chartered Civil Engineer of 42 years experience, a freelance arbitrator, a FIDIC President’s List Adjudicator, a FIDIC certified trainer in management of construction contracts, claims consultant, contracts and project manager consultant. He is a reviewer of the 2017 FIDIC Contracts. He is chairman for South Asia of the Institution of Civil Engineers UK.

He is an Honorary Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers UK, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK. He is in the primary panel of Maldives International arbitration Centre, UK Adjudicators and Hong Kong Adjudicators.

He has worked worldwide in many large projects such as in hydropower, industrial building, hospitals, ports and harbours, and has experience in the cement manufacture industry.

He has carried out FIDIC contracts training workshops conducted as FIDIC certified trainer/lecturer in Fiji, Seychelles, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Timor Leste, Brunei, Nepal, Myanmar and Uganda.

He has served in many standing and ad-hoc dispute adjudication boards and in arbitral tribunals.  

He is former chief executive of Lankem Developments and Lanka Hydraulic Institute.

He is currently chairman of consulting companies - Maaroc Pte Ltd (Singapore) and Mendis Cobain Consultants (Sri Lanka).

Hans G. Enggrob

Mr. Hans G. Enggrob (MSC, MBA), Denmark. International water expert.

Mr. Enggrob is former managing director of DHI India (2011-13), vice president of DHI Group (2013-2015), CEO of Institute of Product Development, Denmark Technical University (2015-2018), founder and CEO of Lyninco ApS (from 2018 and onwards) and the Indian subsidiary Enggrob & Singh Pvt. Ltd.

In addition, he has been board member and chairman in various boards of directors since 2005 and been founder and director of start-ups.

Since 1990, he has been working as international hydraulic expert or manager in projects in numerous countries.

In recent years since 2018, Mr. Enggrob has worked as a consultant and team leader for Asian Development Bank and World Bank in preparing various large water infrastructure project throughout South Asia, such as West Bengal Water Sector Improvement Project, Resilient Kerala Initiative, and Khulna Water Supply Project.

He has supported the investment banks in doing technical due diligence as well as in preparing project bid materials for contractors and consultants for implementation of such projects.

Suman Chattopadhyay, BE(Civil), M. Tech, Chartered Engineer, MCIHT (UK), is the project director and group leader for Jacobs Bridges team in India. He is an UK Engineering Council accredited Chartered Civil Engineer and has an extensive 30 years of professional experience in project management, design management and structural design for Bridges and Infrastructure projects.

His experience includes project commercials, contract management, market analysis, client evaluation, competitor analysis, resource management, client relations, inside and outside sales.

He has led big value consultancy proposals with financial modelling, risk analysis, cash flow, budgeting, rate analysis and costing.
