Portsmouth international port development seminar

Overview

This evening seminar will focus on recent developments and improvements at Portsmouth International Port, the largest municipal port in the UK. These improvements allow the port to handle more and larger vessels, contributing positively to the local economy. The topics will demonstrate leading aspects of port development, and where engineering and technology contributes to improving trade in an efficient and environmentally sound manner. There will be four speakers, covering the new cruise terminal building, future shore power plans to improve air quality and how the port manages safe navigation and dredging.

Ian Diaper will cover the recent evolution of Portsmouth Port, including cruise berth and terminal improvements, cargo terminal improvements and port greening measures as part of future port master planning.

Matt Spiller will describe the design and construction of the new cruise building at PIP by Knights Brown, which has been built as a large extension to the existing ferry terminal building.

Keith Pillay will discuss ABB’s support to PIP to introduce shore power to the PIP ferry and cruise berths by late 2025.

Anisa Koci will describe how PIP undertake maintenance dredging and provide safe navigation while planning the improvement of the marine access for larger vessels, using simulation and training.

Parking:

Parking is available in the multi-storey car park (more info on getting to the port here). Please pay using the pay machines in the car park. Directions to the terminal building are available in the Downloads section below.

On arrival:

Guests can enter the main terminal and head straight upstairs to the mezzanine. Guests will then be greeted at the entrance to the cruise terminal and presented with a name badge in exchange for proof of ID (driving license/passport).
