Overview

The Dover Western Docks Revival (DWDR) redevelopment is a one-off opportunity for the regeneration of Dover, bringing new investment into the area. With UK Government planning approval and supported by a mix of private finance and European Union grant funding, DWDR will deliver:

  • A transformed waterfront to ultimately attract a host of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants with Dover’s unique backdrop of the harbour, cliffs and castle.
  • Development of the cargo business with a new state of the art cargo terminal, berths and perishable warehouse.
  • Creation of greater space within the Eastern Docks for ferry traffic.
  • Much needed quality employment opportunities for local people.

DWDR is the single biggest investment ever undertaken by the Port of Dover with c. £250m committed for its delivery. Stage 3B of the development programme consists primarily of the reclamation of around 10ha of new land for future development through the delivery of approximately 720,000m³ of marine.

Secondary works include the decommissioning of the marinas and old dock gates, removing of all historic marine infrastructure, connection of all new utilities, construction of a new access road, heavy duty paving and the mothballing of several historic onsite buildings.

Site visit details:

The site visit will consist of a series of presentations by Dover Harbour Board (DHB) and the Boskalis Westminster and McLaughlin & Harvey Joint Venture (BWMH), who are responsible for the works, followed by a visit to the discharging and reclamation area.
