Overview

This talk explores how active travel can be designed and engineered into everyday urban life to create safer streets and stronger communities. It will discuss how infrastructure that supports walking, cycling, and micromobility can lead to healthier, more connected, and resilient cities. Active travel is more than a transport choice, it is a catalyst for improving public health, reducing carbon emissions, and revitalising public spaces. By rethinking how streets are planned and used, engineers and planners can help shift mobility habits and create environments where people feel safe and encouraged to move actively.

Participants will gain insights into the role of civil engineering in reshaping urban environments, with a focus on integrating safety, accessibility, and sustainability into transport networks. The format will include a presentation followed by a Q&A session to encourage discussion and knowledge sharing among attendees.
