Overview

It's often easier to assume that everyone’s world is the same as our own. But this workshop will help you step outside your own experience and view life through a different lens.

Using a series of simulation exercises, the workshop will give you an insight into what the world is like for people who may have very different experiences through physical or neurological differences.

Join Alex Buley, ICE South West future leader and Becky Walker, a degree apprentice with Mott MacDonald,  as they challenge your perspectives around inclusion and inclusive design.

Explore the ethical and moral obligations engineers have towards inclusive design and society.

Discuss how engineers can design and build spaces against often conflicting inclusive requirements.

The workshop will include:

  • A discussion exploring what we mean inclusive design and infrastructure
  • Examples of bad and good inclusive infrastructure
  • A discussion about lived experiences
  • A practical session getting people to simulate various situations which many people face (visual or hearing impairment, wheelchair use, neurodivergence etc.)
  • Exploration of ethical and moral obligations for engineers

The workshop is suitable for all ICE members and students.

The venue has disabled WCs, lifts to all floors and DDA compliant access.
