This session serves as a knowledge-sharing platform to deepen understanding of safety practices in construction, focusing on practical measures, innovative systems, and effective planning strategies that enhance site safety. It aims to encourage meaningful discussion on improving safety culture and the adoption of proactive approaches to managing risks in construction environments.
As a joint event between the ICE Hong Kong and ICE Malaysia Chapters, this session offers a valuable opportunity to exchange regional perspectives, share best practices, and foster professional collaboration across borders—strengthening collective efforts to advance safety standards in the civil engineering industry.
The talk will provide insights from two speakers:
- Ts Dr Rizati Hamidun, director of the road safety engineering & environment centre at MIROS
Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) are essential for ensuring safety and minimising disruptions during road construction and maintenance projects. This talk will delve into the critical components of TMPs, including the development of comprehensive strategies that encompass traffic control measures, road closures, detours, and the implementation of safety protocols for both workers and road users. By examining best practices and case studies within the Malaysian context, participants will gain valuable insights into the planning, execution, and management of TMPs, ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient road work environments.
- Mr Ion Chan, industrial development manager at the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council
Mr Chan will share insights into the Smart Site Safety System (SSSS) initiative in Hong Kong. SSSS uses various AI, VR and sensor technologies to mitigate construction safety risks. He will discuss how the system has been implemented across the industry, what impact it has had on construction site safety, and lessons learned from its adoption.
