Overview

As part of Railway 200, Collaborative Conversations will bring together experts from across the built environment to explore future plans, challenges, and the role of rail in shaping the region's built environment.

This event has been organised by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Landscape Institute (LI), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Representing a combined membership of over 360,000 skilled professionals.

Chaired by Sam Uren CEng FICE, engineering director at SLC Rail, speakers will include:

  • Karan Kapoor, head of cost planning and benchmarking at Network Rail

  • Victoria Chadaway, town planning lead at MACE

  • Shauna Bradley, partner at Howells

There will also be two guest speakers joining on behalf of West Midlands Rail Executive. 

This event is free for members and £25 for Non-Members.

Sam is an accomplished Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

She has over 25 years’ experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects. She specialises in new stations and railway infrastructure and has a wealth of experience in design and project management as well as strategic rail development roles.

Karan has a breadth of experience in leading and managing complex infrastructure projects with over 22 years of experience. He has set up and safely delivered complex programmes in the Railway, Nuclear and Highway sectors.

Karan has experience of setting up high performing diverse teams including for the strategic outline business cases for the Redevelopment of Euston Conventional Station for HS2, Crewe programme, Transpenine Route Upgrade and East West Rail phase 2.

Shauna Bradley

Shauna leads a design studio with a focus on masterplans and city-scale regeneration. Her current focus is on the creation of a unique new multi-generational community at Port Loop, and she has spent over a decade designing and leading the Paradise development and is now overseeing the transformation of Campbell Park North in Milton Keynes.

Shauna studied at Queen’s University Belfast and Birmingham City University’s School of Architecture and Design. She is passionate about the city and in creating great places for people to live and work in. Her considered approach often involves large-scale and micro thinking to repair the city grain and knit together communities.
