Overview

The York Station Gateway event, hosted by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) York and North Yorkshire branch, offers a unique opportunity to explore the collaborative efforts behind the transformation of York’s historic station entrance. The evening will focus on how multiple stakeholders have worked together to improve pedestrian access, reduce traffic conflict, and create a more welcoming gateway to the city’s medieval core.

Speakers from the City of York Council, John Sisk & Son, and York Civic Trust will share insights into the project’s vision, planning journey, and delivery to date. Attendees will gain an understanding of how technical, political, and community priorities have been balanced through design and implementation. The format includes a series of short presentations followed by a guided Q&A led by Professor Tony May, encouraging active discussion and shared learning.

Aimed at ICE Graduate Engineers, Students, and Corporate Members, the event will also consider how the Institution’s Enabling Better Infrastructure initiative can support projects like this — and what it might learn in return.
