2021 marks the Centenary of the Railway Civil Engineers’ Association. In the past one hundred years, the world, the railway industry in the United Kingdom and around the world has changed significantly, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the key role the railways have played in connecting people and cities, forming the greenest, safest and most efficient way of transporting people and freight between and into our towns, centres of industry and cities.
We would like to invite our members to join us at the ICE at One Great George Street for a special festive event, to celebrate our history. We’d like to invite our members to share any memories or thoughts on the industry, of it’s past, present and future, and any anecdotes of interest from their careers and past, in an audience discussion hosted by the RCEA Chair, Jonathan Buttery.
We will then retire for some festive drinks and nibbles and socialising. The audience discussion and any slides or images will also be broadcast online for any members who wish to attend remotely.
Please accept the invite using the booking link below, to confirm if you are attending in person or online. Numbers in person will be limited, so please book now to avoid disappointment!
If you have any images, photos or anecdotes of railway civil engineering interest, please e-mail these to [email protected] by Friday 03rd December 2021 and we will endeavor to share them on the evening. We would welcome any contributions of a few slides, photos or videos, and will have an open mic for 1-2 minutes audience discussion on each item.
Chairman of the Railway Civil Engineers’ Association
Chartered Civil Engineer and 25-year career railway engineer. Firm believer in the importance of getting the engineering right on railway projects! Started with British Rail (just) and with privatization moved to GT Railway Maintenance, then Owen Williams Railways and then Atkins (part of SNC Lavalin).
Progressed from civil engineering graduate to resident engineer to designer, and finally multi-disciplinary railway engineering management, currently as Contactors Engineering Manager (CEM) for the design of Croydon Area Remodelling Scheme (CARS). Involved with the RCEA because we put on good rail events for the ICE and are the heart of railway engineering at ICE.
