About this event

Since the 1970s the construction of a new station at Norton, to improve the rail links of the county to the has been part of the plans for improving Worcestershire's infrastructure connections.

As part of the 3rd Worcestershire Local Transport Plan the station was considered the county's top priority. In 2012 The Department of Transport Rail office gave the scheme its formal support.

Over the intervening period between 2012 and 2017 funding and approvals have been secured allowing commencement of the project in September 2017. The anticipated opening of the station in 2019.

This will significantly enhance Worcestershire's connectivity with the UK's key economies and encourage economic growth and development within the county.

The new station forms part of the forms part of the County Council's Local Transport Plan including the county wide rail strategy, and is pivotal to its ambitious growth plans to boost the County's economic value to £2.9bn, creating 25,000 new jobs by 2025.
