Overview

Who is this for? When to attend? Students, Apprentices or graduates when you would like an introduction to Health, Safety and, Welfare.

Why attend? As a future civil engineer, this foundational knowledge will play a critical role in your professional growth and the development of a responsible and effective practice. Principles on HSW will be embedded in everything you do. This session will not be heavy on the theory as it dives straight into the practical insights you need to see to understand how these concepts shape projects. It is a quick opportunity to be exposed to this key aspects through the words and examples of two graduate engineers. Don’t miss this chance to gain valuable knowledge for your future.

How long is the session? 30 minutes

What will it contain? A brief online presentation that brings health, safety, and welfare to life with real-world examples from two graduate engineers who apply these vital principles in their everyday work. For those interested in a deeper exploration of this topic—one of the seven attributes required for civil engineers seeking ICE membership—this session is the perfect starting point and can be followed by the “5 weeks course” on HSW.

The session will be delivered by one or more keynote speakers from industry in MSTeams.

Chloe Copeland is a Degree Apprentice in Bridges and Civils at AtkinsRéalis and is in her final of the Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Warwick. She has worked on a range of projects including East West Rail, Hinkley Point C, and a number of local contracts. Chloe was awarded the ICE QUEST Technician Scholarship for 2021/22.

Grace Woosey

Grace Woosey is a degree apprentice in Highways and Active Travel at AtkinsRéalis and is in her third year of the Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Warwick. Currently based on site, she has worked on Sizewell C since starting her career in design, engineering and management roles.

Grace has been recognised by the industry as a quest technician scholar, NCE Apprentice of the Year Finalist and CIHT Apprentice of the Year finalist
