Railway engineering and its societal impact

About this event

Join this free-to-attend evening event, part of the Global Engineering Congress

Since the beginning of the railways in the 1800’s, engineering for railways has been rolled out on a grand scale with brick, stone, steel and concrete. It has enabled huge changes in human society.

However, increasingly it is relatively ‘invisible’ engineering, based on electronics and data, that is shaping railways of the future, ones which increases capacity and performance more sustainably.

Three short presentations will focus on how modern technology is influencing current developments in railway engineering, and what the future holds both for medium term improvements and long-term aspirations that will enable railways to support the sustainable development of human society for subsequent generations.

We will examine this theme with speakers covering ‘classic’ conventional railways, high speed rail and London’s latest metro Crossrail. This will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience to discuss future developments.

About GEC

The Global Engineering Congress is bringing together the worldwide engineering community to look at how we can trigger real change and deliver the outcomes specified by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The programme offers 5 full days of multi-streamed content. 2,000-plus engineers will take part in a practical programme designed to produce answers that can improve the lives of millions around the world. Don’t miss your chance to take part.
