Mervyn Carter CEng FICE FPWI has a passion for all things to do with railways. He has spent a career as a Civil Engineer, enjoying working on and about railway infrastructure. He will be speaking at this event to share with other enthusiasts some of his wealth of experience as an engineer and his love for model trains too. He will take you through examples of some of the work he has undertaken and pass on some valuable advice on lessons learnt in a career spanning over 40 years.

Following this presentation, we shall be taken on a guided tour of the Hornby Museum by a former employee. Peter Oliver will be sharing his enthusiasm for all things Hornby. He has 53 years of experience and will be providing a unique guided tour through the history of the brands and buildings at Hornby. He will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about this unique Kent based British brand.

11:30 Arrival tea/coffee/juice and registration

12:00 Main Presentation by Mervyn Carter. Mervyn will be speaking and sharing his wealth of experience as a civil engineer on the railway and his love for model trains too. He will take you through examples of some of the work he has undertaken and pass on some valuable advice on lessons learnt in a career spanning over 45 years.

13:00 Lunch

13:4514:30 The attendees will split into two groups. One group will have a guided tour of the museum by Peter Oliver followed by the Scalextric Grand Prix (15 minutes). The second group with visit the ‘One:One Collection’ of real life locomotives!

14:3015:15 The above groups will swap.

15:30 Finish/visit shop

Mervyn Carter CEng FICE FPWI

Mervyn has a passion for all things to do with railways. He has spent a career as a Civil Engineer specialising in the planning, design, and construction of railways around the world. He serves on the ICE Transport Panel and most recently he was a contributing author to 'Shaping the World, Two Hundred Years of the Institution of Civil Engineers' published by Artifice Press Ltd.
