Overview
Join us for the second in a series of four events comprising 2020-21 ICE East Midlands Chair’s Programme: ‘Blue-Green Infrastructure: the theory and practice’, focusing on the theory behind the fundamental change in how cities tackle the challenges of climate change, the practical approach to how these cities have developed and implemented a vision for ‘blue-green’ urban futures.
Nanco Dolman and Dr Emily O'Donnell will take a closer look into the Blue-Green Futures research project and how it’s applied in practice, based on case studies and real examples from Ningbo, China.
In 2015, Ningbo was selected for the Sponge City Program (SCP). SCP is a new concept for Chinese cities, aiming to manage urban stormwater by utilising Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI), bringing more natural water cycles back into cities through accumulation, filtration, purification, storage and reuse of rainwater, as well as providing co-benefits to the environment and society.
Both speakers will look at the efforts that have been made in the water quality, improvements to urban living including social, and economic benefits for the city and its inhabitants, showing how building resilience has helped to adapt to the challenges of climate change.
