Overview
Join the ICE East Midlands Nottingham, Leicester and Derby (NLD) branch for this presentation on HS2 lime stabilisation innovation. The UK’s HS2 rail project will connect London to major cities with trains operating at speeds of up to 400km per hour. The performance requirements for HS2 embankments require a stiff fill material durable to environmental conditions for a 120-year design life. Much of the natural ground along the HS2 route yields cohesive fills which soften when wet, and do not meet this requirement. As an alternative to importing over 10 million square metres of quarried granular fill for phase one of the project alone, lime stabilisation is being used to improve required stiffness.
This presentation will demonstrate the collaboration between Balfour Beatty Vinci and Dr Paul Beetham of Nottingham Trent University and is a great opportunity to those interested in learning more about lime stabilisation.
