Overview
ICE Director General, Nick Baveystock, will speak informally on ‘The ICE: Vision and tasks’ and introduce a discussion topic, then invite participation from all delegates. 'Our purpose has always been, and remains, to improve lives by ensuring the world has the engineering capacity and infrastructure systems it needs to allow our planet and those who live on it, to thrive.'
Nick Baveystock will set out how the ICE will continue to grow a diverse inclusive membership; deliver a core knowledge programme based on the five strategic strands; and support decision makers by providing authoritative, evidence based, impartial and relevant infrastructure advice on which they can rely. Nick will also ask 'how can you get involved?'
There will also be a short ‘taster’ presentation and virtual flyover of the Caernarfon – Bontnewydd Project (planned presentation date 16 December 2021).
The Caernarfon and Bontnewydd bypass is being built for the Welsh Government by a multi-disciplined project team consisting of:
- Balfour Beatty Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK (construction)
- WSP TACP Brython (design)
- Arcadis (commercial advisor)
- Ramboll (technical advisor)
The £135m highways project will create a new 9.8km carriageway from the Goat roundabout on the A499/A487 to the Plas Menai roundabout, realigning the A487 to ease congestion, improve journey times, and support the North West Wales economy. Work includes the construction of two viaducts, 14 structures, 25 culverts, three new roundabouts, and two reconfigured roundabouts. It’s the largest highway scheme in North Wales and is scheduled for completion in spring 2022.
