Overview

This presentation was developed as an awareness session to provide information and raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ community within the Construction and Infrastructure sector.

The talk will be delivered by Amanda McKay, the Central Scotland Chair for Building Equality.

Building Equality is an alliance of construction consultants, engineers, developers, contractors, and institutions who are passionate about working together and harnessing our collective power to drive LGBTQ+ inclusion in the construction industry. It has a presence across the UK, with 40+ organisations from the industry regularly participating in joint initiatives to support LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Their vision is to have a construction industry that is wholly welcoming, inclusive and supportive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender + other related communities.

Amanda McKay

Amanda is an out and proud Transwoman who transitioned later in life. She is passionate about embedding diversity and inclusion within society and particularly at work. She is currently Director of Quality at AWE working in the defence Nuclear sector, Amanda has worked in senior roles in construction and infrastructure sector on such projects as HS2, Hinkley Point C, and in her early career worked in the oil and gas sector.

She is Chair of the Chartered Quality Institute and also Chair of Building Equality Scotland and an active public speaker on Diversity in the workplace.

She is a passionate volunteer having been an officer in the Territorial Army a senior Special Constable, She currently volunteers her time with LGBTQ+ Charities and mentoring young people in business skills and confidence.
