Overview
To help address the current North-South imbalance, strengthen the Union, tackle climate change and support the economy as we emerge from COVID-19, the UK government has committed to major investment in infrastructure. The construction industry, however, has not, to date, delivered the productivity improvements seen in other engineering sectors and the UK takes too long to deliver major projects.
To address these challenges, government has launched "Project Speed" – Faster, Better, Greener” and the Construction Playbook.
The Construction Playbook “captures commercial best practices and specific sector reforms outlining the government’s expectations of how contracting authorities and suppliers, including the supply chain, should engage with each other”, where as “Project Speed” highlights the first steps set out by Prime Minister Boris Johnson “to rebuild Britain and fuel economic recovery across the UK.”
In tonight’s panel session we will hear how Network Rail, UK consultants and Costain, one of our major contractors, are all responding to the challenges laid down in Project Speed to deliver faster, better and greener infrastructure, as we emerge from the COVID-19.
