tunnel manager
John Nicholas is National Highways Tunnel Manager for Hindhead, Round Hill and Southwick Tunnels, the Asset Needs Manager for the Southeast, and the Operations strategic lead for Tunnels.
After leaving CSM, John enjoyed a number of roles in tunnelling, pipe-jacking and micro-tunnelling, up and down the East-coast of Ireland, to CTRL, with periods working on Railtrack’s Southern Region and with Tube Lines, finally settling for well over a decade into road tunnel management through a variety of roles with TfL, including Tunnel Operations & Maintenance Manager, Contract Manager (covering the Docklands Roads Tunnels) and Tunnel Manager (including Silvertown, for a while).
John is also a dad of boys, a school governor, an active committee member of the UK Road Tunnel Association, and has been an irregular attendee, but staunch supporter, of the BTS.
