A jointly hosted online event with ICE NI, IMechE and IET exploring the evolution of engineering through the eyes of Arup Group Deputy Chair, Dervilla Mitchell.
We are delighted to invite you to join us for an insightful conversation with Dervilla Mitchell CBE FREng CEng FICE, one of the UK’s most celebrated engineers. Dervilla will share her personal perspective on how engineering has evolved during her career, followed by a conversational Q&A session.
About Dervilla Mitchell
Dervilla is Arup Group’s Deputy Chair, leading across the UK, Middle East, India and Africa (UKIMEA) regions, home to over 6,000 staff.
A civil engineer by training, Dervilla’s career has featured leadership of large, multidisciplinary teams charged with planning and designing high-profile, complex projects. Her project portfolio includes Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal, Dublin Airport Terminal 2, Heathrow Terminal 5, the Athletes’ Village for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Portcullis House in London.
She was awarded an honorary doctorate by University College Dublin in 2016 and a CBE for services to engineering in 2014. Her Arup group board role includes responsibility for business ethics.
Strengthening the diversity of engineering as a sector is of crucial importance to Dervilla who is also the former chair of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) Diversity Committee, a group that oversees the Academy’s Diversity and Inclusion Programme.
As a mother of three, Dervilla strongly support policies and practices that make it possible for everyone to achieve their professional potential. She is passionate about the future of engineering and the opportunities the sector offers to young people who want to use their skills and creativity to address the challenges we face in a changing world.
