Overview
The Wave is an inland surfing destination at Easter Compton on the northern outskirts of Bristol, which opened in 2019.
Adam Anthony, Associate Director at Hydrock, led the design coordination of this project to construct England’s first surfing lake and the world’s first Wavegarden Cove.
Adam will explains how Hydrock’s multi-disciplinary team was instrumental in supporting the project from conception through to detailed design, including being appointed as Principal Designer. Hydrock worked in collaboration with Spanish technology partner, Wavegarden, using the cutting-edge ‘Cove’ wave-making technology to provide up to 1,000 waves per hour, generating heights between 0.5m and 2m. The facility includes six different surfing zones, offering waves of different size and power for up to 80 users at one time, encouraging people of all abilities to experience the joy of surfing.
