Overview
In the UK, Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) has been tasked with planning and implementing a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) designed to isolate radioactive waste many hundreds of metres underground. A GDF will provide a permanent solution for the UK’s higher-activity radioactive waste.
However, whilst this is not only massively important for resolving a long-outstanding environmental issue, it is also a major engineering and infrastructure project. A GDF will be one of the most significant national infrastructure assets in this country and will create significant investment and employment opportunities which will last for decades for those in the chosen location.
Presented by civil engineers at Radioactive Waste Management, this webinar details the engineering task, the possibilities of new technology, as well as outlining the challenges in building one of the most important and exciting projects in the UK.
