About this event

Tai O is an old and small fishing town in western Lantau Island where it has suffered from serious flooding in the past. By the completion of phase 1 of the improvement works in March 2013, the flooding risk has been mitigated by the river wall constructed in Yat Chung. Besides solving the flooding problem, a better local environment is also enhanced by the upgrading of temple garden in front of Kwan Tai Temple. In the next step, the phase 2 of the improvement works has been commenced to improve traffic and pedestrian circulation at Tai O.

An eco-tour is also included in this visit. Tai O has abundant of ecological resources where participants can look closely at the mangroves and other interesting plants, and observe the fiddler crabs (招潮蟹), herons (鷺鳥) and other wetland creatures. Through the residents of Tai O, the participants can learn about Tai O's natural resources, and reflect on the impact of today's economic growth and infrastructure development on the ecological environment.
