Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works (STSTW) was commissioned in 1982. It is the largest secondary sewage treatment works in Hong Kong. It occupies 28 hectares of land and serves a population of about 630,000 in Sha Tin and Ma On Shan Districts. The daily sewage treatment capacity is 340,000m3 per day.
In recent years, the Government has been exploring the possibility of rock cavern development to develop new land resources. It is confirmed that relocating the STSTW to the proposed site at Nui Po Shan of A Kung Kok is technically feasible and financially viable. Investigation and design works for the relocation project are currently in progress.
In this site visit, representatives from DSD will introduce the project information including the background, daily operation and treatment processes of the STSTW. They will also share with the participants different environmental protection measures of the STSTW and the relocation project of the STSTW to caverns. Participants will be able to visit the different treatment facilities used such as sedimentation tanks, aeration tanks and sludge digesters.
ICE HKA G&S and Hong Kong Institute of Planners Young Planners Group (HKIP YPG) will jointly organize the site visit.
Registration Deadline: 16 March 2018 (Friday)
The event will be cancelled and rescheduled to another date in case of Thunderstorm; Amber or Red or Black Rainstorm Alert; or Typhoon Signal No.3 or No. 8 or above being in force by the Hong Kong Observatory at or after 7am. It may also be cancelled because of safety or other reasons.
