About this event

A talk and visit to Mone Bros Aggregate Recycling Plant in Leeds. This event looks at the logistics of acquiring construction waste, the operations of sorting and processing it into materials that can conform to specifications, as well as the development of those specifications.

Nicola Duckett from Yorkshire Water will explain how local authorities, utility companies and suppliers came together in the Yorkshire Highways Authorities and Utilities Committee (YHAUC) to try to fulfil the need for a quality protocol for recycled materials. The success of that initiative can be judged by the fact that at the outset only 3% of materials used by Yorkshire Water in highway restoration was of recycled origin, whereas now it is 80%.

Steve Horsley from Mone Bros will outline the testing and certification regime and how the company goes about the business of sourcing waste of various types - concrete, brick, macadam - and with the aid of some heavy machinery converting them to saleable and accredited products.
