About this event

Tideway is the name of the company delivering the Thames Tideway Tunnel a major new sewer, urgently needed to help protect the tidal Thames from increasing pollution. The project was originally promoted by Thames Water who obtained planning permission via a Development Consent Order process in 2014.

This talk will contribute to ICE Development Objectives/Attributes focused on engineering problems and innovation.

Roger Bailey

Roger Bailey is an ICE Fellow and has held board level positions in both contracting businesses and engineering and planning consultancies prior to joining the project. The first 20 years of his career was in the geotechnical contracting sector (mining, piling and ground engineering) in the UK and overseas before moving into transportation consultancy (highways, rail, aviation) for organisations such as Crossrail, Network Rail, TfL, Highways Agency and Department for Transport.

Roger's Asset Management Team at Tideway is responsible for technical oversight of project delivery, including design assurance, quality assurance, innovation, compliance with planning permission and the operational integration of the completed Thames Tideway Tunnel asset into the existing London sewer network.

Chris Merridew

Chris Merridew is an ICE Fellow and has over 20 years' experience with Bachy Soletanche Limited. BSL is one of the UK's leading geotechnical specialist contractor working throughout the UK. It specialises in all forms of piling, ground treatment, anchoring, and embedded retaining structures using piles and diaphragm systems. BSL also works on major infrastructure projects with other main contractors in JV. He has personally been involved in major projects including the Jubilee Line Extension, CTRL including St Pancras Station and several station upgrades for London Underground.
