About this event

The Fusion Building is a £22m landmark facility constructed at the centre of Bournemouth University's Talbot campus. Nearly 6000m2 of accommodation is arranged around a spectacular central atrium space. The building fulfils a dual purpose of providing university functions of teaching, research and catering, as well as providing a platform for the university to reach out and collaborate with local business and enterprise.

The project has exemplary environmental credentials, achieving BREEAM Excellent and an EPC A rating which is aligned to Bournemouth University's high sustainability aspirations. The scheme surpassed the client's expectations and was completed on time and within budget. Head of Estates Development, Steve Cox, remarked: "The delivery of the Fusion building has been a huge success: both the formal and informal spaces are very well utilised and it has become the social heart of the campus, as we had hoped. I think part of the reason for this is the attractiveness of the large open atrium, enabling visibility through the building."

Our speaker, Tim Wellington, is Principal Structural Engineer at WSP, who oversaw the delivery of the civil and structural design for this project. The project team includes; main contractor Willmott Dixon, BDP Architect's and Hoare Lea as building services consultant.
