Overview

Join the ICE Early Careers Network West Midlands to hear from inspirational engineers and to celebrate International Woman in Engineering Day 2025.

This year's theme highlights collaboration and unity in shaping the future of engineering. As part of International Women in Engineering Day, this event provides a vital platform for raising the profile of women engineers. It aims to inspire the next generation of female engineers to pursue careers in the field.

Speakers include: 

  • Anna Good, graduate civil engineer at Binnies 
  • Sam Uren, engineering director at SLC Rail 
  • Rebecca Gabriel, project director at Mott MacDonald
  • Serena Gough, senior urban highways engineer at Arcadis 
  • Francesca Guldemond, design manager at Costain

You will hear about their experiences, the challenges they have faced, and the lessons they’ve learned, offering a unique perspective on the evolving role of women in engineering today.

Sam is an accomplished Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

She has over 25 years’ experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects. She specialises in new stations and railway infrastructure and has a wealth of experience in design and project management as well as strategic rail development roles.

Serena Gough

Serena is a Senior Engineer working in the Urban Highways team at Arcadis in Birmingham.  She has worked in the highways transportation sector since graduation and prior to this was an ICE QUEST Undergraduate Scholar.  Serena has experience in the design and delivery management of active travel, bus rapid transit, park and ride design and corridor and junction improvement schemes.  She has worked on projects across the United Kingdom, particularly in the West Midlands and has also worked internationally in Dublin.
