Overview

The session will focus on ethics in engineering, exploring the fundamental role of ethical principles in guiding engineering decisions and professional conduct. Engineers are entrusted with responsibilities that impact public safety, sustainability, and technological advancements, making ethical decision-making essential in their daily practice. This session will highlight key ethical considerations, real-world dilemmas, and best practices to ensure accountability, integrity, and adherence to professional codes of conduct.

The discussion will cover key aspects of engineering ethics, including professional responsibility, conflicts of interest, public safety considerations, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies. Participants will explore case studies that illustrate ethical challenges engineers may encounter and how ethical frameworks, such as ICE’s Code of Conduct and global engineering standards, provide guidance in decision-making.

This session will be hosted by the Professional Development Team of the ICE Malaysia Graduate Network.

The format will include a 5-minute introduction to the ICE Malaysia Graduate Network and the event objectives, followed by a 20-minute technical lecture from the invited speaker.

After the lecture, attendees will be divided into breakout groups for a 25-minute discussion on key takeaways from the session, response formats for the communication task, and considerations for different target audiences.

The session will conclude with a 10-minute group feedback session, where the invited speaker will provide insights and reflections on the discussions.
