Overview

Colwyn Bay is a seaside town situated on the North Wales coast. Over time the existing Victorian sea defences have been exposed to severe storm events and deterioration, often resorting in closure of the promenade highway to users.

The Colwyn Bay Waterfront Project was initiated to address the condition of the existing coastal defences along the waterfront in Colwyn Bay. This included new sea walls, promenade and sand importation, along with other amenities. Because of the extensive work required, an opportunity to create a promenade that would attract local residents and visitors, providing a boost to the local economy.

The Colwyn Bay Waterfront Project enhanced the area along with protecting the community and its infrastructure. In doing so it has regenerated the area, making it a well-used beach nicknamed the “Welsh Riviera”.
