CIBSE Young Engineers Network
The CIBSE Young Engineers Network (YEN) is a network of regional centers that aim to provide a forum & support network for young engineers within CIBSE.
Event organised by ICE
As the world strives to move towards a more sustainable future, engineers are increasingly called upon to deliver solutions that reduce the carbon footprint of our built environment. The PAS 2080, an international standard that outlines effective management and reduction of carbon over a project lifecycle, outlines that carbon emissions comprise capital carbon, operational carbon, user carbon and end-of-life carbon.
This seminar, co-hosted with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers Young Engineers Network (CIBSE YEN) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Hong Kong Branch Young Members Section (IMechE HKB YMS), will introduce attendees to an innovative carbon capture technology developed by the Finnish company Soletair. It is designed to transform conventional buildings into “carbon capture machines”, enabling the built environment to play an active role in decreasing atmospheric carbon dioxide. By integrating with most existing air handling units (AHU) and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, the modular technology can be retrofitted to a wide variety of buildings, offering a practical pathway to greener urban spaces.
The event will feature industry practitioners who will share insights into the deployment and performance of this technology, as well as discuss the broader implications for carbon management in Hong Kong and beyond.

Open to everyone, this may be particularly useful to those preparing for their CEng professional review. Following the recent streamlining process, several changes are being implemented to the professional review process as of January 2022.
This event will highlight the critical role of PAS 2080: Carbon Management in Buildings and Infrastructure in driving global decarbonisation efforts.
NEC’s options X29 is called ‘Climate change’ and allows a client to set targets for anything. And so, despite its name it can be used to set targets for eg things affecting operational cost or even ‘social value’
