Overview

Join ICE West Midlands Birmingham, Solihull and Black Country Branch for this lunchtime webinar on Façade Remediation.

Following the Grenfell Tower fire, façade safety became a top priority in the UK. The rapid spread of the fire was directly linked to combustible cladding, underscoring the urgent need for safer materials and stricter regulations.

The façade is often the most critical and high-risk component of a building project. It can account for up to 30% of total construction costs and is highly prone to failure, with industry reports suggesting that up to 85% of building failures are façade-related.

Hear from Dr Armin Berenjian, senior structural engineer at Wintech on a serious case involving the failure of a detached cladding panel weighing over 500kg, which fell from the 20th storey of a building. This incident highlights the importance of rigorous safety standards and proper installation practices to prevent such failures.
