Overview

This event will explore the current Advanced Transition Works taking place within a nuclear facility that must remain fully operational throughout construction. Attendees will gain insight into the history and original purpose of the Shaft, as well as the significant historical events that have shaped the present-day engineering challenges.

The presentation will also provide an overview of the Shaft and Silo design, examining the multidisciplinary interfaces and the critical role these transition works play in enabling future construction phases.

Delivered by Ebisine Ambakederemo and Danny Innes, the session will highlight the complex considerations involved in undertaking civil engineering works within a highly regulated nuclear environment.

With a focus on the decommissioning of facilities that have been in operation for up to 70 years, the presentation will offer a unique perspective on managing legacy infrastructure, safety constraints, and evolving technical requirements.
