Boskalis
Senior Estimator
Boskalis and Atkins, as part of the VBA Joint Venture, undertook the design and construction of the new Hengistbury Head Long Groyne between 2022 and 2024. Working in an exposed site, with environmental and archaeological constraints, and with extensive public interface, the project was delivered below budget and with significant added value to the client.
Knights Brown
senior design manager
Chartered engineer with 20 years experience working predominantly in marine civils for contractors but with stints overseas and working for consultants. A qualified commercial diver with a passion for working on marine projects, I enjoy developing pragmatic solutions to overcome the challenges encountered from working in this environment.
Poole Harbour Commissioners
harbour engineer
Poole Harbour Commissioners will present an overview of the port’s activities, recent developments to improve the facilities and the work on updating the Port’s masterplan.
Royal Haskoning DHV

The £10 million South Quay development in Poole was completed in 2018. It is a 200m long x 40m wide deep-water quay that provides 9m in depth to accommodate vessels up to 220m in length. This has seen the Port’s capacity for conventional cargoes, yacht liners and special project cargo increase and will facilitate the ever-increasing interest from cruise ships wishing to visit Poole and the surrounding area. The development has enabled the port to accommodate bigger ships, carrying over 1,000 passengers.
Construction of the new quay, by BAM Nuttall Ltd, required 1,700 tons of steel piles, all delivered by sea, as well as 150,000 cubic metres of sand used during development with reclamation fill taken directly from the port’s maintenance dredging scheme. The talk will describe the design and construction of the scheme.
A five-session course delivered by industry experts focusing on key aspects of contracts used in Civil Engineering.
This session will focus on how 3D scanning reshapes construction, maintenance and surveying workflows, from performing manhole inspections to addition and alteration. Join us to learn how 3DGS, visual SLAM, and other tools streamline projects and enhance surveying accuracy.
Join ICE Early Careers Network West Midlands for a lunchtime webinar on ground Investigation practice and the use of data arising for design.
