Overview

Join the ICE Early Careers Network East Midlands for a site visit to the Middlebeck Urban Extension and Southern Link Road (SLR) site.

Middlebeck is a 697-acre strategic urban extension in the East Midlands, located on the southern boundary of Newark-on-Trent.

A key component of this development is the SLR, a nationally significant highway infrastructure project linking the A1 and A46. The aim of the SLR is to relieve congestion in Newark’s Roman town centre and mitigate increased vehicle movements from the Middlebeck development.

The scheme includes 6km of highways, six roundabouts, two culverts, two bridges, 1million m3 earthworks cut and fill, 10km of strategic foul and surface water networks, three pumping stations and 12 no. of utility diversions including the removal of 9 no. 132KVa high voltage pylons.

The following PPE is required for access to the site and will not be provided:

  • Hard hat
  • Long-sleeve his-vis top (orange preferred)
  • Hi-vis trousers (orange preferred)
  • Glasses
  • Gloves
  • Safety Boots

This event is a great opportunity for graduates, students and apprentices interested learning more about highways, structures, and construction.

Spaces for this event are extremely limited, once booking capacity has been reached, please contact [email protected] to be added onto the waiting list.
